Principal Adviser Environment | Brisbane, QLD Influence environmental strategy and governance across Rio Tinto's Pacific Operations. Brisbane head office role location About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs We are looking for a Principal Adviser Environment to provide strategic leadership and expert environmental advice across Pacific Operations. In this highly influential role, you will lead governance and assurance programs, support environmental law reform readiness, and partner with sites and central functions to improve environmental risk management and performance. You will play a key role in shaping environmental strategy, influencing decision-making, and ensuring Rio Tinto continues to deliver responsible environmental outcomes across its operations. Key responsibilities include: Leading programs of work to prepare Pacific Operations for evolving environmental legislation and regulatory requirements. Driving governance and assurance initiatives that strengthen environmental performance and risk management. Providing expert environmental advice to operational and project teams to assess, manage and minimise environmental risks and impacts. Influencing and partnering with key stakeholders to develop effective risk mitigation strategies. Providing strategic analysis and recommendations to senior leaders on environmental priorities and emerging risks. Coaching, mentoring and developing capability within environmental teams. What you'll bring Significant experience in environmental management, governance, risk management or environmental strategy. A strategic mindset with a focus on governance, risk and long-term environmental outcomes, suited to someone who thrives on shaping direction rather than purely technical delivery Deep technical expertise with the demonstrated ability to influence outcomes across a complex organisation. Strong understanding of environmental legislation, approvals and compliance frameworks. Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders. Ability to lead initiatives, manage competing priorities and deliver strategic outcomes. Excellent communication, collaboration and relationship building skills. Project governance experience, with the ability to lead complex programs of work and drive outcomes through influence and collaboration.
