About Us | Mō mātou The purpose of the Government Inquiry into the Fatal Landslides in Tauranga is to establish how the fatal landslides occurred, report on whether relevant agencies took appropriate steps to manage any apparent risk in the period immediately prior to the two fatal landslides, including steps to warn and evacuate people likely to be affected by the landslides, and identify any lessons that can be applied to reduce the risk of similar tragedies in future. The role | Te tūnga As Principal Advisor you will provide thought leadership, analytical capability and strategic advice to deliver on the Inquiry’s terms of reference. You will play a lead role in the gathering, review and analysis of reports, data, research and other material relevant to the terms of reference. You will lead the development of advice to Members, ensuring robust analysis which will inform report findings and recommendations. The Principal Advisor will provide policy or technical expertise to support the lines of inquiry within the work programme and will support complex analytical work. You will be confident communicator and natural connector, comfortable influencing at senior levels. Politically savvy, you will know how to navigate complex environments, anticipating risks and future issues. What you bring | Nōu te rourou * Subject matter expertise in emergency management, natural hazard management and/or the planning system is essential. * Significant experience in leading the provision of high-quality analysis and advice and effectively applying the outcomes of research and evaluation * Exceptional ability to identify and effectively mitigate risks and consistently use sound judgement using the best evidence available * Excellent knowledge of government and policy processes * Demonstrated skills in supporting the Crown in its relationship with Māori under te Tiriti o Waitangi * Understanding of the broader strategic context * Structured work practices with the ability to plan well * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Excellent relationship skills and the ability to work at all levels of organisations For you | Mōu At the Department of Internal Affairs, we are committed to offering a collaborative and innovative culture where your perspective and ideas will be welcomed.
