ABOUT THE ROLE

As part of its ongoing commercial strategy, Rio Tinto Commercial has established a trading division. The role of the trading division is to enhance our commercial abilities in an agile structure that will capture additional value from optionality in our physical assets and contract portfolio with effective management of market risks.

• Maximize the value of Rio Tinto’s physical flows by placing our products optimally
• Optimize our portfolio and capture additional margin from the value chain
• Work with our assets to determine optimal products and volume to produce, sell, and deliver.

We are now recruiting for a Principal Advisor, Market Risk Analytics. Reporting to the Senior Manager Market Risk, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:

• Develop pricing and risk models for bespoke market risk systems, including the quantitative and qualitative aspects of market risk management, performance validation, and stress testing.
• Validate existing pricing and risk models for physical base metals, freight, iron ore, and associated derivatives.
• Develop pricing and risk models for bespoke market risk systems, including the quantitative and qualitative aspects of market risk management, performance validation, and stress testing.
• Work with trading market analysts and traders to develop forecasting models and back-test trading strategies while providing market price analysis in terms of commodity price changes and factors driving it.
• Design and generate daily reporting on market risk limits utilisation, and understand key risk drivers.
• Prepare ad-hoc trading initiatives analysis in terms of valuation, exposure, and associated market risks.
• Perform periodic (daily/weekly/monthly) risk reporting for stakeholders.
• Build up capability on quantitative analysis within the team.

TO BE SUCCESSFULLY CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE:

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., finance, financial engineering, maths, statistics, etc.)
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in a market risk management environment with strong technical skills and/or model developer capacity.
• Proficient in Python and working with databases like SQL Server.
• Knowledge of Data Science techniques will be a plus.
• A commodities background is an advantage, but not essential.
• Good communication skills, ability to articulate technical concepts for the general audience, and drive discussions.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
