Use your expertise to strengthen monitoring of public health programmes Influence system level change and monitor critical programme that support communities Wellington based | Full time | Fixed term until July 2027 Midpoint of $145,198, dependent on experience Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do As Principal Advisor, Insights and Evidence, you will lead public health work programmes, providing expert analysis and strategic leadership that helps the Ministry anticipate emerging risks and opportunities. Work in a cross-functional capacity across the SIM unit and Public Health Agency and Mental Health group to lead and deliver public health work programmes Develop strategic insights and knowledge products that inform group priorities and support science‑based policy, regulation, and long‑term planning. Provide expert thought leadership and strategic advice, influencing cross‑Ministry and sector-wide decision‑making to advance Government and Ministry priorities. Oversee complex, high-impact projects, driving innovation, identifying emerging trends and risks, and ensuring robust frameworks and methodologies underpin delivery. Strengthen capability and collaboration, mentoring others, building strong relationships across the Ministry and wider sector. Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring Advanced subject‑matter expertise, supported by a Master’s or PhD (or equivalent experience) in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, social science, or applied research. Proven ability to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑informed advice, applying critical thinking, sound judgement, and strong technical leadership to complex public health issues. Exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, navigate ambiguity, and convey insights clearly to diverse audiences, including senior leaders and Ministers. Strong relationship management and sector engagement experience, with deep understanding of the machinery of government and confidence operating in complex, fast‑paced environments.
