Principal Advisor, Talent & Organisational Development Type: Fixed Term to 30 June 2027 Location: Wellington Applications Close: 5pm Wednesday 22 July Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role The purpose of the Talent and Organisational Development Unit is to lead and support the identification, design and implementation of strategies that will shape NEMA’s organisational design and culture. To provide guidance to ELT on Leadership and People and Culture initiatives. This includes the provision of advice and support for data driven process improvement initiatives that inform and improve strategic and operational planning, capacity, and capability. The purpose of the Principal Advisor, Talent and Organisational Development role is to: * Provide expert guidance and leadership within NEMA to ensure our strategies, programmes and processes build a high performing organisation and a great place to work. * Provide expert advice on NEMA’s organisational culture to ensure it continues to grow and develop and ultimately supports us to achieve our strategic direction. * Lead an approach to organisational development and recruitment and induction that supports ELT and SMT in creating a high performing organisation and a positive work environment for staff. As NEMA is an operational agency, there may be a requirement to respond to emergency activations in the event of a national emergency response. This may include potentially long hours and challenging working conditions, e.g. an emergency could occur at any time of the day or night and may require working shifts and/or working weekends. NEMA provides thorough training prior to you being required to assist in a response. NEMA will do all in its power to support staff in meeting their work and family responsibilities during an emergency. The welfare and wellbeing of our staff is of utmost importance. Your response role will be in the Health & Wellbeing sub-function. Due to the nature of our role in Emergency Management, NEMA has a very dynamic work environment and as a small agency, staff are often required to pivot and change focus on their work at short notice. Attributes of adaptability, agility, resilience and curiosity are all required on a daily basis, in and out of times of emergency response. Ko wai koe | About you We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience: * A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent body of knowledge and experience in Human Resources/Organisational Development/Organisational Psychology * Significant experience in Organisational Development including advising senior leadership teams on a broad range of organisational development topics (e.g. talent and leadership development, employee experience, diversity and inclusion) * Experience working closely with Senior Leaders * Expertise in developing and implementing diagnostic tools to understand and improve the employee experience and organisational culture * Experience advising on organisational change programmes * Excellent presentation and facilitation skills And with the following attributes: * Flexibility of approach/thinking, able to adapt in constantly changing circumstances * Able to work independently with low levels of direct supervision * Comfortable facilitating a collaborative work environment, with a constant eye on completing the objective and goals of the business unit * An ability to deliver high quality work output under pressure * The discretion and tact to handle confidential and private information Ko wai mātou | About us The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system.
