About You
An Azure Platform Principal Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the strategic direction, design, and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure. This high-impact role operates at a broad scope, influencing technical architecture, engineering practices, and the overall technical strategy for organizations heavily invested in the Azure ecosystem.
These engineers are not only deep technical experts but also pragmatic visionaries who translate complex business needs into effective and efficient cloud solutions. They are expected to be hands-on while also providing technical leadership and mentorship to multiple teams.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have experience in:

  • Architectural Leadership: Define and drive the technical architecture and evolution of Azure-based platforms, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-optimized. Make critical design decisions and setting technical standards following Azure Well Architected Framework.
  • System Design and Implementation: Lead the design and implementation of complex systems and services on Azure, leveraging a wide range of Azure services. Employ good practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Bicep. Build and optimise DevSecOps pipelines and branching policies, and shift left semantic, functional security testing of IaC.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve the most challenging and ambiguous technical roadblocks, especially those requiring collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Technical Guidance and Mentorship: Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, raising the technical bar and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering teams, operations, and security, to ensure successful platform delivery and adoption.
  • Driving Innovation: Identify and evaluate new technologies and approaches to improve the platform and introduce innovative solutions.
  • Operational Excellence: Focus on building platforms that are not only functional but also highly operable, with robust monitoring, logging, and incident response capabilities.
  • Security and Compliance: Embed security best practices throughout the platform lifecycle and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Deep expertise in designing, deploying, and managing systems on Azure, with a strong understanding of core Azure platform capabilities and services such as: Azure Policy, Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, Key Vault, Function, Logic Apps, VM, SQL Server, Storage Account, Firewall.
  • Proven experience with IaC tools like Terraform or Bicep.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and IaC code security and quality scanning tools.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to cloud development (e.g., Python, Java, Go).
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build secure, reliable and scalable systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and drive alignment across multiple teams.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, systemanalysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
