In this role, you will architect scalable API services, build resilient data ingestion pipelines, and define core product logic that powers critical, real-time customer experiences. You will partner directly with executive leadership, work closely with engineering teams across the stack, and play a key role in shaping the future of our platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will solve complex distributed-system challenges, design asynchronous processing pipelines, and ensure system reliability while integrating with external data sources—including high-latency and unpredictable government systems. You will engage with customers to understand real-world use cases and build backend capabilities that translate into intuitive product experiences. Key Responsibilities Own backend architecture and guide technical strategy, working closely with the CTO and leadership team. Design, implement, and scale API services using Python and FastAPI. Build robust systems for collecting, transforming, and enriching large volumes of data from distributed or unstable external sources. Architect asynchronous pipelines and event-driven workflows to support automation, continuous processing, and scalable decision-making. Define business logic, product workflows, and backend service behaviors for new capabilities and product expansions. Enable efficient communication between backend, frontend, infrastructure, and data teams. Participate in customer conversations to gather insights and translate needs into platform functionality. Lead backend engineering standards, elevate code quality, and mentor engineers in best practices. Drive deployment, observability, performance, and scalability improvements across Kubernetes-based environments. Ensure reliability, uptime, and operational excellence across all backend services. What You Bring Extensive expertise building production backends with Python, FastAPI, and container-orchestrated environments such as Kubernetes. Proven experience implementing asynchronous architectures, distributed worker systems, and complex data pipelines. Deep understanding of API design, streaming vs. unary communication patterns, and scalable request processing. Ability to architect systems that ingest, normalize, and analyze data from unreliable external environments. Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking mindset. Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across engineering, product, and customer teams. Comfortable owning major technical decisions and guiding engineering direction. Passion for building crafted product experiences that solve real-world problems. Nice to Have Experience with workflow engines, queues, or event-based infrastructure. Familiarity with data security, compliance, or regulated data environments. Prior work with real-time dashboards, analytics systems, or automation-driven products.
