Description

Job Description
Lead strategic digital change in a role that blends technical depth, stakeholder engagement, and real-world impact.
Want to work somewhere where you’re doing good for the world, your community, and yourself at the same time?
If you think you’ll thrive in a sector undergoing significant transformation—working on critical projects that matter to New Zealand’s energy future—then this opportunity could be a great fit for you.
About the role
Vector is investing $4.6 billion in infrastructure and digital transformation, with the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) programme at its core. ADMS is a real-time control platform that’s reshaping how we manage our electricity network—enabling smarter, more resilient, and more sustainable energy delivery for Auckland.
As we move into the next phases of ADMS, we’re focused on improving outage management, network access, and field service coordination. Joining us as a Principal Business Analyst, you’ll play an instrumental role in delivering the digital change that underpins these initiatives.
You’ll be a senior member of our Business Analysis Practice, helping shape how we work and deliver across a range of initiatives—from small projects to multi-year strategic programmes. You’ll work across operational, technical, and customer-facing teams to ensure solutions are grounded in real-world needs and deliver measurable value.
While this role doesn’t have direct reports, you’ll lead through influence—guiding teams, shaping thinking, and driving alignment across complex programmes.

What you can expect to do week to week

  • Lead and facilitate workshops to define business needs, gather requirements, and inform solution design.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Vector and within the ADMS Programme to understand operational challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate high-level concepts into clear, actionable documentation—such as business requirements, user stories, process maps, and test scripts.
  • Work alongside digital delivery teams to support solution development, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • Apply Agile and traditional methodologies to manage analysis deliverables across multiple workstreams.
  • Use design thinking or human-centred design approaches to define problems and uncover broken processes.
  • Create visual artefacts and storytelling tools that help stakeholders understand the value of proposed changes.
  • Contribute to the maturity of the Business Analysis Practice by sharing insights, refining ways of working, and mentoring others where appropriate.

About you – skills and experience you’ll bring

You’re an experienced, confident and curious business analyst who thrives in complex environments and enjoys working across teams to deliver meaningful change. You bring strategic thinking, technical depth, and a strong customer focus—alongside the ability to influence, mentor, and drive outcomes across the organisation.

  • Skilled in Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and traditional delivery methodologies.
  • Strong technical understanding and ability to collaborate with digital delivery and product teams.
  • Confident leading workshops and translating business needs into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Proficient in BPMN, process hierarchy, and service blueprinting.
