Responsibilities

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

As a Principal Chief Engineer (H&M Manager), you will manage the Maritime H&M business line within the country, lead and support the regional team in growing the business and operational management. To carry out all aspects of ABL Marine services and key deliverables in full compliance with ABL policies and procedures and undertake your own chargeable time. In addition you will also:

  • Manage and coordinate day -to-day survey attendances within Maritime team, ensuring schedules and standards are met.
  • Develop plans to provide sufficient surveyor coverage around areas of responsibility.
  • Lead in developing business with H&M Insurers/Broker/Underwriters Shipyards Ship Owners, Charterers/ Investors/ Banks/ Legal Firms/ Lawyers, P&I Clubs.
  • Maintain own reasonable level of billable utilisation.
  • Retain and develop ABL existing and potential client base.
  • Handle specific contentious cases and maintain customer satisfaction on general cases.
  • Carry out technical management and development, conducting report deliverable reviews to ensure quality assurance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and training to team members.
  • Lead the development, marketing, and execution of business strategies.
  • Oversee the creation of budgets, pricing models, and quotations for new projects.
  • Drive the implementation of the superyacht strategy.
  • Ensure all operations, deliverables, and report quality comply fully with approved instructions, procedures, and policies.
  • Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities, to lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with the applicable laws and the Company’s standards and policies including its QHSE policies.
  • And other duties as assigned.

The position will be based in Singapore. Flexibility in working hours may be required. Willingness to travel (including offshore) and work within a variety of time zones.

To thrive in this role, you should possess strong technical expertise, sound decision-making abilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrating effective leadership and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and issues simultaneously is essential. Additionally, you will:

  • Chief Engineer (STCW Class 1) or equivalent with marine consultancy/survey experience
  • 10+ years in marine surveying and consultancy
  • Strong Hull & Machinery expertise
  • Familiarity with vessel/machinery repair procedures
  • Sound technical judgment and decision-making skills
  • High-quality, timely reporting
