Overview The Azure Edge team is looking for highly motivated and talented engineers to design and build state-of-the-art services that provide route security and reliability into the networking stack for one of the biggest networks in the world. We are looking for Principal Cloud Network Engineering Manager. Our team is at the forefront of advancing emote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technologies to optimize high-performance networking across Azure infrastructure. We focus on designing, deploying, and scaling RDMA capabilities that power critical workloads across data centers and edge environments. Azure Edge team operates one of the biggest network infrastructures on the planet. The team manages Edge network for entire Microsoft, connecting more than 200 Edge sites and more than 60 Microsoft Azure regions across the globe. Responsibilities Risk Prevention and Engineering Excellence Champion the adoption of best practices across teams and organizations to strengthen risk identification and proactively prevent recurring classes of bugs. Incident Management and Cross-Team Collaboration Lead incident response efforts with urgency and precision, minimizing customer impact through seamless coordination across multiple service teams. Automation and Validation Advocacy Promote and implement automated testing and validation procedures across functions and disciplines, with a focus on enhancing the reliability of network devices. Data Strategy and Insight Generation Apply deep expertise in data analysis to identify critical datasets, uncover gaps, and source new data to inform strategic decision-making. Infrastructure and Deployment Leadership Drive the development of scalable programs for data center operations, including the deployment and upgrade of physical network devices. Capacity Planning and Performance Optimization Analyze dashboards, metrics, and traffic patterns across network infrastructures to assess current performance and anticipate future capacity needs. Other: Embody our Culture and Values Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR equivalent experience. 2+ years of people management experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Experience with hyperscale network automation, including Wide Area Network (WAN) orchestration, link migration, and edge standardization across large-scale deployments. Understanding of RDMA protocols and architecture, including experience with device health validation and diagnostics platforms. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
