JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

We’re seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead at the intersection of design and engineering. This role will provide technical, product-oriented, and organizational leadership for best practices for prototyping across the organization.
You’ll hit the ground running as a hands-on contributor, managing multiple projects while building interactive, testable proof-of-concept prototypes using a no-code AI platform to validate ideas early with users and stakeholders. In close collaboration with design, engineering, and product leaders, you’ll help shape human centered design practices across web and mobile platforms, thoughtfully integrating AI technologies where they drive value.
You’ll be responsible for managing the design system including elements, components, style library and templates within a no-code AI platform, ensuring its scalability, consistency, and compliance with accessibility and regulatory standards. You’ll also apply engineering rigor through CI/CD workflows to support version control, integration, OpenAI API integration, and the deployment of design system components within the AI platform. You will design, develop, and QA front-end UI components within the AI platform, embedding UX principles and WCAG 2.3 accessibility standards directly into the system to ensure inclusive and compliant user experiences.
By championing a lean design system approach, you’ll accelerate innovation, reduce risk, and enable faster, more efficient product development cycles.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s in CS, Design, HCI, or related field - Required
  • Master’s degree - Preferred
  • 10+ years in UX, product design, design system or front-end development (required), with 15+ years to include a combination of professional, startup, and entrepreneurial experience - Preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in prototyping and front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Git, and CI/CD pipelines. - Required
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and maintaining design systems, including use of design tokens and publishing components via NPM packages. - Required
  • 2+ years of experience in developing with OpenAI APIs and using no-code or low-code AI platforms. - Preferred
Responsibilities
  • Bridge design and engineering to deliver functional, testable MVPs faster through interactive, clickable prototypes.
  • Use a hybrid design-engineering approach to reduce time-to-delivery and drive real product impact—not just design output.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate based on user feedback, product goals, and technical constraints.
  • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to explore smarter, scalable user experiences.
  • Implement and scale a lean design system to ensure consistency, reduce rework, and avoid reinventing the wheel.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to shape and validate early-stage concepts.
  • Focus on execution of functional MVPs while ensuring usability and WCAG 2.2 AAA accessibility to accelerate learning and de-risk decisions.
  • Create reusable prototype demo components and patterns to support speed and consistency across teams.
  • Contribute hands-on to front-end development to minimize design handoff friction and reduce the need for excessive documentation and communication with the development team.
