Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Stantec is growing in Australia and is on the lookout for a Principal Drainage Engineer to join our Queensland Transport Delivery team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to impart your knowledge and experience as well as assist in the delivery of projects to ensure the on-going profitability and success of key projects. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and guidance to the team and manage drainage related works for the planning and design of complex, major transport infrastructure projects.

DAY TO DAY TASKS WOULD INVOLVE:

  • Develop and lead a dedicated drainage design team by recruiting talent, building capability, and creating a high-performance culture.
  • Drive continuous improvement in drainage design practices, tools, and workflows to strengthen technical excellence and delivery outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other technical leads across disciplines to integrate drainage solutions effectively within multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Manage drainage related works including stormwater management and flooding for the planning and detailed design of transport infrastructure drainage design - servicing road, rail and airport projects.
  • Detailed analysis and review of hydrological and hydraulic model.
  • Retention and Detention Basin design for water quality treatment of surface water and groundwater.
  • Provide technical design expertise for drainage and stormwater quality systems, including piped networks and major transverse drainage structures Embrace and promote a leading digital work environment and delivery culture.
  • Ensure work output is of a technically high standard and activities are commercially viable for the business.
  • Plan resource needs in consultation with project managers and ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR THIS ROLE YOU’LL NEED:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and accredited as CPEng/RPEQ
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to build and guide high-performing teams
  • 10 – 15 years’ experience within roads and highways with knowledge of technical standards and industry practice, with a strong focus on QLD-based authority requirements (Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Local Government).
  • Working knowledge with drainage and water quality design software such as 12d, Drains, XP STORM, HECRAS, MUSIC etc is required.
  • Knowledge in TUFLOW flood modelling software will be preferrable.
