Description

We’re looking for an experienced, practical, hands-on Principal Electronic Engineer who can apply their great electrical/electronic engineering knowledge to practical solutions, enjoying diagnosing and fault finding down to component level (PCBs), then using skills and experience to repair or recommend the next steps. As a senior member of the technical team, you will become the go-to for technical queries and will involve a level of mentoring and coaching to other team members. Some travel and site visits expected, between sister sites and customers/suppliers. You will be able to work to tight deadlines and have good time management awareness along with a suitable experience. Provided your attitude and attention to detail meets our standard, industry experience of working with radiography equipment is not essential. Ongoing training, certification and support is assured. Full UK driving licence and clear DBS required.
Part of the role will require working from our sister company sites.

o PCB and circuit/system design and specification for products, equipment and systems
o Hardware requirements for embedded systems knowledge
o Sound understanding and experience of implementing first principles
o Working to a Chartered Engineer (CEng) standard
o Ability to design, create, read, interpret and act on electrical/electronic diagrams and schematics
o Ability to interrogate and interpret electronic systems with no drawings or documents (old systems, customer existing systems)
o Low voltage circuitry knowledge – PCB and wired systems
o Control system logic knowledge
o Digital and analogue electronic fundamentals
o Industrial electrical/electronic hands-on practical skills
o Diagnostic and repair down to component level (PCB)
o Technical report writing skills
o Mechanically astute
o HND/degree in suitable STEM subject
o Full UK driving licence
o Ability to pass security clearance (basic DBS)
o IT literate with email and MS suite such as Word and Excel

Responsibilities

ROLE:

This role would ideally suit a highly skilled and experienced electronic or instrumentation engineer whose engineering capabilities span other disciplines such as electrical and mechanical – and are able to apply sound first principles to engineering challenges.
· Permanent, full-time, day shift, Mon-Fri
· Workshop operates on a 37.5hr week (early finish Friday)
· 40hr contract (accrue 2.5hrs/wk for travel/overtime/lieu time etc.)
· Flexi- and lieu-time where permitted
· Working from sister company sites around the UK as required – based at NDTE
· Occasional site visits (20%), workshop based (80%), potential for overnights away

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Providing technical expertise and advising internally and externally
· Diagnostic and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and electromechanical systems, including down to PCB component level
· Diagnostic and repair of instrumentation
· Support Technical Director with designing electrical/electronic systems for upgrades, overcoming component obsolescence and integrating with third party equipment and systems
· Responsible for revision control and roll-out of revisions
· Support Technical Director with development and implementation of new products, services, equipment and systems, including revision and upgrade of existing equipment and systems
· Completion of risk assessments, reports, documentation, and certificates
· Support Technical Director with completion of designers documentation, user requirement specs, manuals, procedures and technical documentation
· Have the knowledge, understanding and competency to identify potential regulation breeches and feedback to the office (training provided)
· Technical input to sales to ensure the correct solution is offered/quoted
· Calibration of instrumentation and electronic equipment
· Safe, correct, and efficient preventive and routine maintenance of equipment and machinery
· Correctly disassemble, inspect, clean, replace and re-assemble equipment and systems
· Electromechanical system testing and commissioning
· Equipment and machinery health checks
· Coaching and mentoring of other team members
· Liaise with customer about works and suggested (any) remedial actions
· Working with suppliers to deliver solutions to customers
· Feedback to the technical team with improvement suggestions
