Job Purpose The Principal Engineer – Communications & Technology Systems is responsible for all aspects of Systems Engineering associated with projects and tenders that involve Communications & Technology within the Rail & Transport Systems Division of the Transportation group. On day-to-day activities the role is the independent Engineer that is outside of the Design team and audits the engineering quality standards and the innovation and design independently from the project team. As a key member of the Communications and Technology Engineering Group, the Principal Communications Engineer will be involved in process and standards associated with; planning, design reviews, construction, commissioning and testing of delivered services. In addition, the Principal Communications Engineer assists the Engineering team to develop and implement strategies for the continuous improvement in the delivery of customer services in accordance with provisioning, installation, commissioning, and maintenance guidelines. Key Responsibilities Ensure the design documentation satisfies the project requirements Review and Approve Designs either in a checking capacity or verification capacity subject to the projects needs and obtained competencies Implement a joint and common approach to design templates, interface management, design deliverables, reporting and delivery program management Ensure that all necessary reviews, verifications and validations are planned and conducted, and the outcomes of these are incorporated into the design including producing reports as needed Review and ensure that the design conforms to all safety, environmental, construction, commissioning, and operating requirements Review design effort/costs are within budget and liaise with management in relation to any design changes Participate in leadership roles for tender preparation Support the RTS operations team and the Engineering Manager in managing the staff skills and Graduate program for the RTS team. Qualifications and Requirements Degree in Engineering or equivalent – (Mandatory) Eligible to be a Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia – (Mandatory) Experience in large scale Communications/Technology engineering projects. Experience in multi-discipline Projects including infrastructure, railway, DoD, Utilities, Oil & Gas. Knowledge in Systems for Electrical/Mechanical/Communication Engineering. Why Apply?
