Description

ABOUT THE JOB.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team within Southwest Operations.
As a Principal Engineer, you will help and assist the regional Geotechnical Engineering Team Manager in leading and inspiring a team of engineers to robustly manage geotechnical asset risk, the identification and prioritisation of geotechnical need and the early solution development of geotechnical schemes.
The Principal Engineer will provide deep specialism and technical expertise to Engineers involved in the identification and evaluation of asset specific needs and early solutions primarily for geotechnical asset portfolios inclusive of earthworks, rock slopes and the interaction between geotechnical assets and structures, drainage and other highway assets, while assuring adherence to defined asset management strategies and standards and to act as the technical authority where necessary for the geotechnical asset class.
You will also be involved in shaping the way National Highways in the South-west innovates geotechnical asset management as well as interfacing with our Safety, Engineering, and Standards (SES) colleagues to ensure compliance with standards and scheme approval governance (DMRB & MCHW), whilst also influencing the continual improvement of standards.
