WELL LOOK NO FURTHER – THIS IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU!
We are delighted to be recruiting for a Principal Engineer to join our friendly and experienced team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our borough, enhancing the safety and convenience of journeys for our residents and visitors. Some of our recent projects include the Hartburn Lane Junction Improvements and development of the UK’s lowest carbon emission roads.
As Principal Engineer, you will be the driving force behind Stockton’s Road Safety Strategy, and you will:
You will also be supervising a team of Officers tasked with managing the Council’s Community Participation and Ward Transport budgets, as well as overseeing the Car Parking service. Your expertise will ensure that resources are allocated effectively for maximum community benefit, driving impactful changes and fostering a safer, more engaged community.
We’re innovative, not afraid to try something new and are always looking for ways to maximise resources and evolve the way we deliver services for the future to make a difference to the local community. For example, did you know we were one of the first local authorities to replace all of our streetlights with LEDs?
This is a perfect opportunity for an experienced highways engineer ready to take the next step in their career. We will provide the support you need to thrive in a leadership position.
Don’t just take our word for it! We asked our recent new starters what it’s like to work here and they said:
“I LOVE IT! THIS IS ME UNTIL RETIREMENT!”
We are keen to hear from individuals with the following:
Whilst experience in road safety is desirable, it is not essential, and we welcome applications from those with experience in other areas of highways engineering.
For more detailed information about the role, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification included in the Supporting Documents section.

When not on-site or homeworking, you will be working in our brand-new modern office in central Stockton, with excellent facilities and spaces for both collaborative and individual working.
