Description
Description Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Full-Time Principal Engineer to support our Nuclear Engineering Tooling and Design team. This role requires experience within the nuclear industry, coupled with strong technical leadership skills. You will be responsible for driving complex design projects, providing technical oversight where applicable, and mentoring engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and nuclear safety requirements. Duties/Responsibilities: Lead and oversee all aspects of the design process for tooling used in both PWR and BWR plants (e.g., create design concepts, develop drawings, estimate costs and timelines, write proposals for customer-supplied tooling and engineering services, coordinate fabrication through machine shops, establish appropriate test requirements/specifications, and perform factory acceptance testing). Work closely with customers for specialized applications or projects. Collaborate with engineers, project management, and experienced technicians to develop, test, and qualify prototypes for field use. Lead or participate in design reviews to identify issues upfront and offer tooling design improvements (e.g., ease of manufacturability, longevity/reliability, cost). Develop technical documentation (e.g., design specifications, test plans, operating procedure, technical manual) for new tooling. Perform other related duties as assigned. Why Join Us? Opportunity to contribute to meaningful, high-impact projects and innovations within our budding Tooling and Engineering division. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: Basic understanding of best practices in Engineering and Tooling Design for applications in refueling, maintenance, and repair activities in nuclear power plants. Basic understanding of rigging and lifting standards (e.g., NUREG-0612, BTH-1). Strong technical writing and communication skills. Demonstrated project management skills for effective time management and timely deliveries. Ability to travel when required (up to 10% travel anticipated as required to support customer meetings) to Hi Tech Solutions, partnered facilities, and/or customer sites. Ability to obtain unescorted access authorization to nuclear power plants. Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on tooling or refueling operations. Preferred Experience: Proficiency in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault, or equivalent). Experience of the nuclear refueling process for PWR and BWR plants. Familiarity with the nuclear industry requirements (e.g., FME requirements for underwater tooling, lifting and handling requirements) Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or simulation tools. Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing standards. Work Schedule & Physical Requirements: Position is hybrid or on-site depending on project needs. Position requires reliable high speed internet access and ability to have an in-home work environment free of distractions. Full-time position (40 hours per week), with potential OT (straight time) for billable field jobs. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
