The Position
ACCIONA is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Engineer – Transmission Lines to lead the design, development, and delivery of high-voltage transmission infrastructure across Australia.
In this role, you’ll lead complex engineering projects, provide expert guidance on HV design standards and compliance, and ensure all solutions meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams — including civil, structural, primary systems, and power systems engineers — to deliver integrated, future-ready infrastructure for clients in the power, renewable energy, and transport sectors.
Working within an EPC or D&C environment, you’ll gain invaluable experience across the full project lifecycle, including construction and commissioning, while contributing to projects that support Australia’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full design lifecycle of complex systems, from concept through integration and validation including resolving design conflicts and ensuring systems meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards
  • Apply RAM principles to enhance system maintainability, availability, and reliability
  • Use advanced modelling and simulation tools to validate complex system designs, lead Value Engineering and Whole of Life assessments to improve cost-effectiveness and sustainability
  • Review and validate technical documentation against project and industry standards, oversee compliance with Design Controls and Engineering Management Systems
  • Mentor teams on design controls and systems engineering, proactively improving design quality and efficiency
  • Lead problem-solving efforts for complex technical challenges, balancing project constraints such as cost, time, and quality,
  • Diagnose performance deficiencies, conceive and design remedial measures and predict performance of modified systems, proactively identify and address design flaws and construction issues, aiming to optimise project performance

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Status (including RPEV, RPEQ, NER & CPEng), or the ability to achieve within 6 months of commencing, is desirable
  • 10+ years’ senior experience in transmission line design (including 220kV or higher), with a preference given for candidates with 5+ years in field-based roles
  • Advanced PLS-CADD skills (up to 500kV preferred) with working knowledge of PLS-Tower
  • Strong knowledge of HV transmission, substations, and relevant standards
  • Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor and/or TNSP experience is highly regarded
