About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide enterprise‑level technical leadership across the Repository Services and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform ecosystem. This role is responsible for driving architectural strategy, modernization, resiliency engineering, and platform governance across multiple mission‑critical applications, storage services, and distributed systems. The Principal Engineer will influence cross‑domain architecture, guide large‑scale platform transformation programs, and ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of ECM repositories serving diverse business lines. In this role, you will: Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership Required Qualifications: 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience. Strong experience in platform engineering, distributed systems, or enterprise‑scale Enterprise Content Management architectures. Deep hands‑on expertise with Microservices architecture, Kafka, NAS/S3 storage, and OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms. Demonstrated experience leading large, complex modernization or data center transformation programs. Proven ability to influence senior leadership, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate across multiple engineering and business teams. Strong hands‑on development experience with Java/Java EE, Spring frameworks, microservices, and API‑driven integration models. Hands-on expertise with repository systems like FileNet Expertise designing distributed systems, enterprise web services (REST/SOAP), and scalable data pipelines. Exposure to LLM consumption/integration, Prompt Engineering, and hands on experience with Python/Spring AI for AI related development Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, and Google ADK for building Agentic workflows Practical experience with Apache Kafka, JMS, and building high‑throughput, resilient messaging and streaming workflows. Proficiency with data technologies such as JPA, Oracle, YugabyteDB, MongoDB, and S3‑compatible object storage solutions. Extensive experience with IBM FileNet ingestion, optimization, repository design, and governance workflows. Strong background in OpenShift (OCP), Kubernetes, and containerization of legacy workloads. Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, platform automation frameworks, and DevOps practices. Hands‑on expertise integrating enterprise secrets management systems such as HashiCorp Vault. Strong architectural foundation across performance engineering, scalability, security, reliability, and resilience. Experience driving POCs/POTs, evaluating emerging technologies, and influencing platform strategy across large organizations. Experience working within large, regulated enterprise environments. Exposure to AI‑driven automation, intelligent platform operations, and advanced observability tooling. Experience participating in large‑scale data center transformation or cloud migration initiatives. Job Expectations: Lead Platform Architecture, Modernization, and Engineering Excellence As a senior technical authority, you will set engineering direction and guide modernization across a complex multi‑application ECM environment. Define multi‑data‑center and multi‑availability‑zone architecture strategies, routing flows, dependency maps, and resilience models for over 30 microservices. Convert enterprise data center design principles into actionable, application‑specific reference architectures. Remove long‑standing legacy constraints including NAS performance bottlenecks, active/passive database limitations, and non‑scalable architectural patterns. Introduce AI‑assisted observability, optimization, and automation capabilities to enhance platform intelligence and operational efficiency. Develop reusable, enterprise‑grade platform components such as metadata services, notification frameworks, wrappers, and integration modules. Establish and publish technical patterns, engineering principles, and modernization blueprints for adoption across the ECM ecosystem. Lead capacity and performance planning across services, repositories, and workloads; standardize containerization strategies and migrate legacy workloads to OpenShift/Kubernetes. Drive continuous improvement of service reliability by monitoring platform health metrics, enforcing guardrails, and preventing changes that may compromise availability or stability. Drive Data Center Transformation, Operational Resilience, and Business Continuity In this capacity, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing enterprise‑wide transformation and resilience programs. Lead the application migration strategy and sequencing for virtualized server workloads transitioning to Next Generation Data Centers (NGDC). Collaborate with Infrastructure and Platform Engineering to secure network, compute, storage, container fabric, and inter‑DC routing requirements. Define and operationalize NAS‑to‑S3 migration patterns aligned with ECM storage governance standards. Oversee multi‑application ecosystem dependencies, ensuring minimal cross‑team disruption during large‑scale migrations and infrastructure changes. Drive platform and application readiness validation through structured evidencing, readiness packets, and architecture checkpoints. Govern release management cycles, accelerating safe deployments while establishing hotfix patterns for critical workloads. Lead resolution of complex deployment and integration issues spanning microservices, messaging flows, MQ routing, and ingestion pipelines. Own RCA documentation and drive systemic remediation to prevent recurrence of high‑impact incidents. Maintain and evolve business continuity playbooks for hot/warm failover, cross‑site replication patterns, and recovery procedures. Automate BCP exercises, validate environment failover behavior, and embed resilience principles into architectural decisions. Provide Repository, Storage, Messaging Expertise & Strong Partner Leadership You will serve as the senior subject matter expert across repositories, storage platforms, messaging infrastructure, and partner integrations. Lead NAS‑to‑S3 transitions and drive optimization of IBM FileNet repositories, ingestion workflows, indexing, and governance models. Advance Kafka adoption for scalable streaming workloads, ensuring robust backpressure handling and predictable performance under load. Evaluate ingestion, retention, archival, and governance requirements across repositories, ensuring compliance with enterprise policies. Act as the primary technical partner for key application and platform teams, providing strategic guidance, architectural recommendations, and technical leadership. Support migration sequencing, compliance validation, metadata alignment, and readiness checkpoints for partner teams onboarding to ECM services. Oversee non‑functional readiness validation, ensuring performance, scalability, latency, throughput, resilience, and security meet production standards. Govern readiness for indexing, search, conversion pipelines, and high‑volume ingestion workloads. Design intelligent scaling strategies and adaptive workload management frameworks to maintain consistent performance during peak demand.
