Principal Environmental Planning Lead Grade: 11/12 Salary range: $149,739-$173,174 + superannuation and leave loading Duration: temporary full time for up to 2 years Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement 2 days a week in Sydney or Gosford. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies Play a critical role in shaping the environmental planning and governance of a $1 billion infrastructure program that keeps NSW communities safe. We are seeking an experienced environmental planning professional to lead governance, planning assurance and stakeholder engagement across complex, high‑value infrastructure projects within the Public Safety Network. About the team This role sits within the Program Delivery function in the NSW Telco Authority. This role supports delivery of the $1 billion Critical Communications Enhancement Program (CCEP). The team delivers essential telecommunications infrastructure that enables emergency services to operate effectively, particularly in regional, remote and high‑risk environments. You will work closely with project, property, design and vendor teams to ensure environmental planning, compliance and sustainability considerations are embedded across the full project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include Ensuring the legal framework for environmental planning activities is applied in accordance with NSW Government strategic direction, policy and legislation, including compliance and review of legislative amendments. Leading, developing, reviewing and maintaining environmental planning assessment templates and site environmental management plans. Reviewing and endorsing environmental planning assessments (including REF documentation) and liaising with specialist consultants. Managing and ensuring compliance of external contractors and consultants against environmental and planning obligations. Providing authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders to support environmental management of the Public Safety Network. Supporting project risk management, including advice on environmental and bushfire risk. Building and maintaining strong relationships with government stakeholders (including NPWS, Crown Lands and Forestry) to support timely, compliant project delivery. To be successful in this role you will have Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental management, environmental science, planning or a related field Demonstrated experience delivering environmental planning activities on complex, high‑value infrastructure projects Proven experience working within government and/or large infrastructure delivery environments. Established, strong stakeholder relationships with relevant government agencies, particularly NPWS, Crown Lands and Forestry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and legislative information for diverse audiences, including senior executives. Strong understanding of project and program management methodologies and governance frameworks. The ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams while managing competing priorities and deadlines. Nice to have: Experience working on linear or telecommunications infrastructure projects. Experience contributing to sustainability and climate risk initiatives, including Net Zero programs.
