Job Summary: The Principal Environmental Scientist provides advanced technical expertise and leadership for federal environmental projects, with emphasis on soil and groundwater remediation under CERLA and RCRA programs. This position plays a critical role in designing, managing, and implementing complex remediation projects for federal clients including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Requirements Essential Duties: · Serve as technical lead on federal environmental remediation projects involving soil and groundwater contamination. · Develop and implement investigation and cleanup strategies, including sample plans, contaminant delineation, and remedial action design. · Interpret complex environmental data and develop scientifically sound conclusions, recommendations, and clean up strategies. · Ensure compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, and related USACE and federal regulatory frameworks. · Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, and proposals. · Support proposal and pricing development with technical knowledge. · Serve as client contact for technical discussions, participate in site visits and client meetings. · Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure deliverables, budgets and performance goals are met. · Manage environmental staff. Minimum Education and Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field. · 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, hydrogeology, and soil/groundwater remediation. · 8+ years experience with federal contracting including USACE. · Professional Geologist (PG) required. · Demonstrated success in performance-based cleanup projects. Preferred Experience and Qualifications: · 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. · Proficiency in GIS, data visualization and environmental modeling software. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Deep technical understanding of subsurface environments and remedial action technology. · Proficient in evaluating complex sites with multiple contaminant plumes and recommending effective solutions. · Strong organizational and leadership skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks. · Strong knowledge of USACE reporting standards, safety programs, and project management processes. · Strong technical writing and communication skill. · Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable representing ESC to clients and regulatory agencies. Other Requirements: · Valid driver’s license. · Ability to gain access to military installations. Work Environment: · Combination of office and field work. · Office work primarily based in Overland Park, KS, with a hybrid schedule (Tuesday – Thursday in office). · Travel required for project work, field work, and client engagements. Physical Abilities: · Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment. · Ability to walk, hike, and work in outdoor environments, including rugged or uneven terrain, for extended periods. · Ability to work in varying weather conditions (rain, heat, cold). · Ability to work long shifts during field mobilizations. Salary. The base salary range for this position is between $100,000.00 to $140,000.00. The actual base salary offered depends on factors, including but not limited to, qualifications, years of relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, business need, and market demand.
