ABOUT YOU

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and eligibility or near eligibility for membership of a recognised professional accounting body such as CPA Australia or Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of public sector accounting requirements and financial management procedures including the Public Finance and Audit Act, Treasurers Directions, Health Service
  • Accounting Procedures Manual and relevant legislation and regulations, and the principles of accrual accounting

The Principal Finance Business Partner leads and provides strategic business support and advice to the branches within the Ministry, and the Director, Finance Strategy. This includes supporting and providing advice regarding financial performance and budget management of Ministry branches, supporting the State budget process within NSW Health and providing expert financial advice to support strategic initiatives and opportunities to prioritise and optimise use of public funds.
Crown Clerk 11/12, starting salary from $149,739 - $173,174 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Provide expert advice to support the effective financial management and financial performance of Ministry branches
  • Lead and support a small team to ensure the effective functioning of the Finance Strategy team and broader finance division
  • Lead the preparation of expert financial advice regarding MoH financial performance, new policy costings, benefits and identification of funding sources for policy proposals
  • Provide expert advice to support the annual budget cycle and year-end financial processes for Ministry branches
  • Identifies opportunities that aim to prioritise and optimise the use of public funds including reform, reprioritisation and offsets/savings opportunities
  • Contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the Finance Division through the identification and implementation of improvements in financial practices and processes
  • Support the Director, Finance Strategy in the development and delivery of new policy proposals and measures, identifying interdependencies and leveraging resources to maximise efficiencies and achieve outcomes
  • Prepare clear, effective high-quality correspondence, reports, submissions and briefings for the Director, Finance Strategy, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and executive stakeholders
