Clifton is currently searching for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Earth Sciences practice team in our Regina location. In this role, you will work with a dynamic group of professionals across a broad range of disciplines and play a key role in the delivery of professional engineering services for a variety of exciting geotechnical projects throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive top line growth by building new client relationships, supporting existing client relationships to grow Clifton’s footprint in the market, and achieve a sustainable industry-recognized practice.
  • Act as the key client service interface and provide technical support to existing Clifton clients.
  • Lead and participate in a wide variety of geotechnical projects and field programs including field investigation, design and construction, geotechnical analysis, and dam safety inspections and reviews.
  • Evaluate geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures and earth structures.
  • Create and edit engineering design drawings, plans and details (including excavation, grading, utilities, roadwork, report figures, etc.).
  • Direct and review geotechnical analyses with a focus on soil mechanics, providing technical expertise in your area of specialization.
  • Ensure effective project management, including accountability for financial and technical performance, to ensure project milestone and deliverables are met on time and within scope.
  • Complete or review technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needs.
  • Support business development activities, including recruitment of new clients and new sectors of the economy not currently being served by Clifton.
  • Provide technical leadership to foster a culture of excellence.
  • Act as a safety leader and champion for Clifton’s health and safety program.
  • Ensure adherence to Clifton’s Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery, including contracts management.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological or Mining Engineering. Preference given to candidates who have obtained a PhD in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in geotechnical/geologic exploration, analysis and design, including mine waste and tailings management and geohazard assessment.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan (APEGS).
  • Broad technical and management skills with the focus and capability to provide services as a subject matter expert.
  • Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with the ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time, and team management skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to travel to various locations (including remote locations) to complete field work, as required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and be comfortable driving mid- to full-size trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments.
  • Continued attention to safety and safe work environments, with a strong workplace safety orientation.
