JOB SUMMARY:

In this role, you will serve as the lead for Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) activities for Mining & Metals (M&M) projects in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and executed out of Bechtel’s Brisbane office.
You will report to the M&M G&HES Lead and are expected to establish a Brisbane-based G&HES group to support M&M projects in the APAC region where you will supervise the Brisbane G&HES team and liaise with other G&HES specialists, the M&M regional engineering manager, as well as other Engineering disciplines and Functions. In addition to your supervisory responsibilities, you will provide technical support for business development and project execution activities within your areas of subject matter expertise. Your expertise will help ensure G&HES project aspects meet project requirements.
“This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires MS degree in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or hydrogeology, hydraulic or hydrologic engineering with 14-16 years of relevant experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Professional registration (Professional Engineer, Registered Professional Geoscientist, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable advanced proficiency level within field of expertise in the following:
  • Planning and managing field investigations, analysis, and design.
  • Managing consultants/contractors performing tasks such as field investigations and engineering design.
  • Applying industry-standard computer applications.
  • Familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
  • Plans and conducts independent scope of work within his or her G&HES specialization:
  • Geotechnical engineer - Plans and conducts independent scope of work and technical specifications for geotechnical design and field investigation works including geotechnical design of ground improvements, foundations, general earthworks, and dams. Coordinates and oversees field investigations and laboratory testing.
  • Engineering geologist - Plans, coordinates and prepares specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations for subsurface exploration and material subcontractors. Develops geotechnical/geological investigation plans and subsequently supervises field investigations. Conducts geological and geohazard mapping.
  • Hydraulic or hydrologic engineer - Reviews and interprets regulations and permitting requirements relevant to flood protection, site development, and plant operation. Specifies, collects, reviews, and interprets hydraulic and hydrologic data to be used for licensing and design. Originates, checks, or reviews hydraulic and hydrologic documents such as calculations, sections of licensing documents, reports, specifications, etc. Provides field support during execution of field activities.
  • Participates directly in new business development efforts involving G&HES scope of work.
  • Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services and participates in proposal preparation and presentation.
  • Conducts or leads special studies on economic feasibility and on new technologies, methods and materials.
  • Interprets new or special governmental regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
  • Develops and coordinates special technical educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel, including mentoring of developing G&HES technical specialists.
  • Takes an active and visible role, representing Bechtel at professional conferences and on committees.
  • Keeps abreast of technological developments in the respective field and keeps management informed on important new advances.
  • Participates in public meetings and licensing hearings.
