We value curiosity, continuous learning, excellence in engineering, and a deep commitment to delivering customer‑obsessed security outcomes. Responsibilities As a Group Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a high‑impact engineering organization chartered with building services and tools research needs to deliver the next generation of protection, research, and disruption capabilities at scale. You will: Provide strategic and technical leadership, defining long‑term architecture, investments, and success metrics across your areas of ownership. Build, mentor, and develop a diverse engineering team—driving clarity, engineering discipline, secure‑by‑design practices, and a strong culture of collaboration and accountability. Partner closely with engineering, research, product, and cross‑security teams to design and deliver end‑to‑end security capabilities that land measurable customer outcomes. Establish and operationalize team OKRs/bowlers, service instrumentation, cost optimization, and operational excellence to ensure reliability, performance, and compliance. Lead resource planning, quarterly/monthly execution, and cross‑team dependency management to deliver high‑quality solutions on time. Continuously improve engineering excellence through automation, CI/CD, governance, threat modeling, and telemetry‑driven insights. Champion and accelerate adoption of AI across security research and engineering workflows. Foster a data‑driven culture built on trust, transparency, shared ownership, and growth mindset—reflective of Microsoft’s manager expectations. Qualifications Required 15+ years of experience building and operating large‑scale commercial software systems. 4+ years designing scalable, distributed, cloud‑based services. 4+ years delivering microservices‑driven architectures. Demonstrated excellence in debugging, problem‑solving, and systems thinking. Strong knowledge of secure software development lifecycle principles. Familiarity with modern engineering toolchains (Git, build/validation systems, telemetry/monitoring, project tracking, lifecycle management). Ability to work independently, manage complex architectural dependencies, and drive clarity in ambiguous spaces. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Leadership & Engineering Competencies Proven ability to develop, coach, and grow engineering talent through structured rhythms (design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, feedback mechanisms). Experience setting technical vision and aligning multi‑disciplinary teams across research, engineering, PM, and design. Expertise operationalizing engineering systems for reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and compliance. Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, collaborative cultures that celebrate diverse experiences and perspectives. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence deeply technical and executive‑level stakeholders.
