About the Role We are looking for Principal Inspectors across our three compliance teams: Strata and Property and Consumer. As the Principal Inspector, you will lead and coordinate complex, risk-based inspection activities that ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and protect consumers and businesses across NSW. You will provide technical and operational leadership to inspectors, develop and implement inspection strategies and contribute to continuous improvement in regulatory delivery. While we want to hear from people who are passionate about fact-finding and problem solving and who have worked in investigative or compliance teams before, we also want to hear from candidates with investigative experience in different fields, including regulators, law enforcement, insurance investigators, audit and forensic accounting and investigative journalism. Your Responsibilities Will Include Lead the delivery of targeted, intelligence-led inspections across a range of regulated industries. Provide expert advice and guidance on complex or sensitive inspection matters. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support compliance and enforcement, including education and outreach initiatives. Coach and mentor inspection staff, promoting capability uplift and professional development. Ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and application of relevant legislation and policy. Contribute to continuous improvement in inspection planning, risk assessment and operational processes. To be successful in this role: We are seeking an experienced and confident compliance professional who has experience leading and mentoring teams in fast-paced environments and has: Investigative or compliance expertise – Experience in conducting thorough and complex inspections and investigations Regulatory knowledge – Understanding of legislation, compliance and enforcement Critical thinking – Strong analytical skills and sound decision-making Communication and negotiation – Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and deliver outcomes Adaptability – Stay calm, impartial, and focused in high-pressure situations Relevant qualifications such as Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent) are preferred.
