SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants for the role will be expected to demonstrate that they have experience in the following areas:

  • Experience working in a laser product development and/or laser applied research environment. Ideally with experience in gas laser design and construction
  • Knowledge of ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems (preferably to including design/specification experience)
  • Previous ownership of a laser design which has been manufactured (in one-off or volume production).
  • Experience in the development of optical drawing, with particular focus on modelling, specifying, metrology of high-reflectivity coatings.
  • Experience using at least one of the following optical modelling packages: Ansys Optics Studio, MATLAB, Macleod, COMSOL.
  • An appreciation of inertial sensing technologies including Ring Laser Gyroscopes
  • An appreciation of the mechanical and electrical design aspects of laser systems.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team and engagement within the wider optical supply chain.
  • Strong analytical, modelling skills and good laboratory skills are beneficial.
