Medtronic is among the world’s largest medical technology, services and solutions companies. Our Legal department, which spans the globe, is looking for a legal counsel with diversified legal experience, strong business acumen and a positive and proactive attitude, to join our Canadian legal team.
The ideal candidate will have substantive corporate, commercial experience with an interest in health, privacy and competition law. This individual will work across Medtronic businesses to: (i) advise on diverse issues including complex legal questions, commercial contracts, competitive public procurement processes, product liability and transactions/M&A, (ii) support business opportunities and mitigate risks, (iii) maintain compliance with internal policies such as our Business Conduct Standards, and (iv) contribute to high-level policy decision- making. Legal counsel must possess strong legal skills and be able to effectively interact with all levels of employees including a variety of internal and external cross-functional support. This role requires a high level of professionalism and responsiveness to business stakeholders in a large, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
This position can reside in our office locations of either Brampton, Pointe-Claire or Vancouver, or work remote within Canada.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides legal advice, counsel and service to internal business clients concerning legal rights, obligations and privileges of corporations.
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates various commercial agreements and documents.
  • Keeps current on legislative issues, statutes, decisions and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies.
  • Provides legal guidance on policies, procedures, legislation and business practices.
  • Identifies, anticipates and helps mitigate key legal risks.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts on commercial, regulatory and compliance matters to build consensus or resolves legal and business issues.
  • Efficiently manages and drives multiple projects to completion.
  • Works with outside counsel to direct activities.

MUST HAVE: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law Degree with strong academic credentials in Common and/or Civil Law from a duly accredited Canadian law school
  • Member in good standing of a Canadian Bar/Law Society
  • 5+ years of legal experience with experience in corporate and commercial law
