The Airframes, Structures & Radars, and Materials (ASM) leads in the mechanical hardware design, development, and production of weapons systems. ASM uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, and technology, with capabilities encompassing a broad range of technical disciplines, including product engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials engineering, analysis and test, rapid hardware development/builds and configuration and data management documentation.
ASM is comprised of individuals with technical expertise in hardware design, integration, and production support. The ASM directorate uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon Core principles.
The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and support Patriot shelters and to support the BMC4I IPT-related scope.
This position is in Tewksbury, MA (On-site)

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant professional engineering experience OR in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant professional experience is required
  • Experience with hardware design, integration, and/or designing and developing cables, connectors, and harnesses (preferably for use in Military environments)
  • Experience with Earned value management system (EVMS) or similar
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance and US passport is required.

QUALIFICATIONS WE VALUE:

  • 3 years of proposal preparation and presenting experience
  • 3 years of experience with program planning, scheduling and cost estimation
  • Experience with materials, load bearing structures, shock/vibration/load analysis
  • Military cable and electromechanical system design/troubleshooting experience
  • ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) experience

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide guidance on Raytheon expectations for design rigor, level of TDP & MDP documentation required, typical analysis approach, and other similar topics.
  • Ensure the suppliers are successful in completing major design and production reviews on schedule.
  • Represent Shelter section in PDR, CDR, including ensuring design is manufacturable for multiple new MEIs
  • Lead EAC reviews, proposal review, and closely track and maintain the program schedule and cost.
  • Mentor and train the new engineers by providing technical guidance and project support throughout the product life cycle.
  • Work with shelter production team, suppliers, and Raytheon subject matter experts as required to resolve any design and production issues.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
  • Work with limited supervision and meet technical, schedule, and monetary commitments.
  • Lead and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to promote sound technical decisions.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in an engaged team environment.
