Job Description Our national Building Engineering team are looking for a technically strong Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team, based in Melbourne. You will be leading a wide variety of Building Services projects across key market sectors. How you’ll make a difference: Leverage extensive mechanical design experience to deliver high-quality, efficient, and commercially sound outcomes across health, defence, transport infrastructure, sports infrastructure and data centres and other complex building projects throughout ANZ. Provide technical leadership for mechanical design and project delivery on major client projects, including undertaking senior-level technical reviews and design assurance. Lead multiple technical projects simultaneously, ensuring consistent quality, technical rigor, and timely delivery across a variety of sectors. Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams, applying technical expertise to drive quality through the review of design calculations, specifications, drawings, and documentation. Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior engineers in the preparation of high-quality mechanical design documentation and deliverables. Qualifications The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. The qualities that help you thrive: Ideally, 12+ years’ experience within a Building Services consultancy environment, or significant design and delivery experience as a Senior or Project Engineer within the Mechanical Contracting sector. RPEV and CPEng preferred. Demonstrated track record in high-quality technical design and project delivery, with the ability to build, maintain, and enhance strong client relationships. In-depth knowledge of Building Services systems, Australian Standards, and relevant codes, with the ability to effectively share technical expertise with clients, junior engineers, and broader project teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine passion for mentoring, developing, and supporting engineers at earlier stages of their careers. Proactive approach to driving technical innovation, continuous improvement, and efficiency within the mechanical engineering team.
