An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Fire Life Safety and Tunnel Ventilation team in our Vancouver or Toronto offices. You will provide leadership in the technical excellence and delivery of a variety of projects in Canada and internationally, with a significant focus on transportation projects.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Providing technical leadership for the analysis, design, and implementation of ventilation, fire protection, and fire life safety systems for transportation and transit tunnels, and associated overbuild, underground, and surface facilities
- Leading innovative, performance-based strategies and designs for tunnels and infrastructure projects including Tunnel Ventilation System design, design optimization using 1D or 3D (CFD) industry standard software, fire protection, egress strategy, inspection and condition assessment, and construction phase services
- Providing technical leadership and guidance, supervising delivery of technical content, and promotion of technical excellence
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices.
- Preparation and peer review of project-related technical reports, contract documents, drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Supporting development, proposal opportunities, and project delivery

Candidate Specification:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering in Mechanical or Mining Ventilation Engineering from an accredited university
- At least 15 years of relevant industry / project experience.
- Registered status with a relevant professional body (for example P.Eng.)
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients and nurture the development of junior staff
- Knowledge and application of current regulatory requirements and local building codes
- Experienced in performing studies, evaluations, and design development
- Experienced in interaction with jurisdictional authorities
- Active in and knowledge of the current state of industrial professional excellence (e.g., peer-reviewed industry journals and/or industry conferences)
- Understanding of technical issues that impact design, construction, and operations
- Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment
- Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables
- Challenge oriented individual with an appetite for problem solving
- Ability to travel to clients’ offices and job sites – some travel may be required
- Ability to work flexibly to support project needs

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $125,000 - $156,000
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate’s actual salary within the expected range.
