What you’ll do: At WSP, we’re supporting some of Australia’s most significant mining projects across sustaining capital, brownfield upgrades, and major infrastructure. As our mining portfolio continues to grow, we’re looking to bring on a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and help shape the delivery of complex projects from our Newcastle team. This is a senior leadership role within our Mining group, where you’ll play a key part in both technical delivery and team leadership. You’ll work across a range of projects spanning bulk materials handling, processing plants, and mining infrastructure; supporting clients across Australia. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to clients, lead engineering outcomes, and mentor a team of engineers... helping to uplift capability and ensure high-quality, practical solutions. * Provide technical leadership across mechanical engineering design and delivery for mining projects * Lead and review the development of engineering solutions, calculations, and design documentation * Drive quality, safety, and compliance across all project deliverables * Engage directly with clients, building strong relationships and acting as a senior technical point of contact * Support project planning, resourcing, and delivery, working closely with multidisciplinary teams * Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, contributing to team growth and capability * Contribute to business development, including proposals, client engagement, and identifying opportunities About you: * Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering * 10-15 years + experience working in a design engineering capacity, ideally within a similar environment * Extensive experience in mechanical engineering within the mining or minerals processing sector * Proven ability to lead complex project delivery and provide high-level technical guidance * Strong experience in areas such as bulk materials handling, plant design, or fixed plant infrastructure * Demonstrated capability managing client relationships and stakeholder engagement * A collaborative approach, with a focus on mentoring and developing others * Chartered status (or working towards it) will be highly regarded Why WSP?
