As a Principal Medical Affairs manager supporting SPECIFIC TEAM or CUSTOMER, you will be trusted to work on CUSTOMIZE and CUSTOMIZE at LOCATION. In this role, a typical day will include: The Principal Medical Affairs manager (PMAM) is a highly experienced field-based member of the Medical Affairs team who serves as a strategic link between Alcon and Medical Experts (ME)/Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in the field of Ophthalmology and Optometry and the internal GMA MSL/R&D organization. The PMAM strategically supports the development and appropriate use/adoption of Alcon products and therapies through supporting evidence generation and evidence-based scientific exchange/medical presentations and by gathering actionable insights to further inform and shape the company’s understanding of the products, therapeutic area, market access, and clinical practice. The PMAM responds to unsolicited requests for scientific exchange/insights, detailed working knowledge of FDA-approved Alcon products, current medical/scientific research, and publications and proposals for scientific research. The PMAM is proficient in KOL engagement, including mapping and strategic alignment. The PMAM is proficient in providing support for ECPs interested in participating in ALCON’s Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) by guiding them through the concept endorsement, synopsis review, and grant approval process, and acts as an end-to-end study liaison. The PMAM serves as a mentor to onboard new field Medical Affairs Managers and experienced team members in scientific subject matter and KOL/IIT management skills. The mentoring and training, along with business acumen (landscape, financial literacy, market/competitive intelligence, strategic thinking, and customer-centric focus) form the basis of the PMAM training/mentoring to other team members. The PMAM proficiently provides ophthalmology information by delivering unbiased scientific data dissemination in the form of medical presentations to practitioners, third-party payors, and internal Alcon associates. The PMAM also responds to queries and unsolicited requests for medical information from doctors submitted to Medical Product Information and are escalated to the Medical Affairs Managers team. The PMAM provides important information for making healthcare coverage and access decisions using Health Economics and Outcomes Research and deep payor landscape knowledge. The PMAM helps in trial design, providing biostatistics support and possesses deep manuscript preparation and publication expertise. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON: Require OD, MD/DO/MBBS/ PhD/PharmD/Advanced Degree in Ophthalmology or Optometry Deep knowledge of eye diseases including ophthalmic surgical procedures and optometry. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry field (academia, industry, practice), with at least 3 of those in the ophthalmic device or pharma industry. Minimum 8 years at Alcon in an R&D/GMA role preferred. Minimum 10 years’ experience in a customer-facing role Working knowledge of the Healthcare System and of the research procedures as well as the ICH guidelines, GCP, and other ethical guidelines. Experience designing and executing clinical trials, in the post-market phase. Experience in scientific/medical presentations and deep experience in medical writing and biostatistics. Broad knowledge of clinical trial design, product development, regulatory requirements, payer landscape, and life cycle management. Proven track record in developing and fostering peer-to-peer, credible relationships with Medical Experts/decision-makers.
