DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

MITRE’s Electronic Systems Development department is seeking to hire talented and creative engineers with significant expertise in the implementation of complex digital ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) to lead and support advanced research and development projects of national significance and to help the US Government set adequate policies for microelectronics.
As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to engage with our sponsors, academia and industry to develop best practices and policies, to foster collaboration among government civil and military agencies, and to architect and implement microelectronic solutions for a wide range of government organizations. We specialize in rapid prototyping of advanced sensor, communication, and navigation systems on leading edge semiconductor process technologies. As an applied research organization, we focus on capability development and demonstration. Our world class labs provide a canvas for our team to conduct hands-on research, testing, and develop tangible solutions to support our military leaders and reinforce our nation’s defense.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Must be a US citizen with a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance
  • Candidates should have a strong foundation in programming and experience with one or more RTL languages such as VHDL, Verilog/System Verilog, and a solid background with RTL synthesis and simulation tools
  • Experience in Place and Route, Synthesis, Verification, and/or packaging tools from industry-leading EDA vendors such as Cadence, Synopsys, and/or Siemens
  • Strong foundation in digital design, semiconductor physics, and circuit analysis
  • Experience on the deployment of custom integrated circuits using semiconductor process nodes < 16 nm
  • Experience with the application of industry standard best-practices for design, verification, test, and deployment of integrated circuits on government programs procuring custom ASICs
  • Experience with the development, procurement, and integration of third-party Intellectual Property (IP) into custom ASICs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Deep understanding of government best practices and guidelines for trusted and assured microelectronics fabrication
  • Experience interacting with the Trusted Access Program and using trusted, accredited suppliers for integrated circuit fabrication and packaging
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. or PhD in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or similar field and 15+ years of related experience
  • Experience developing technical requirements or implementing designs targeting low-SWaP applications for government applications
  • Demonstrated experience acting as trusted advisor to US government Program Managers
  • Demonstrated experience bringing multiple industry and government parties together to accomplish a common objective
  • Strong digital signal processing skills and experience implementing signal processing algorithms
  • Strong understanding of internal workings of electronic design automation (EDA) tools used for ASIC and FPGA development
  • Expertise in tear-down and reverse engineering techniques for microelectronic systems
  • Experience in electronics packaging solutions, including heterogeneous integration methods
Responsibilities

This position provides an exciting opportunity to help the US Government develop and establish strategies and policies in support of mission critical programs. Key opportunities include:

  • Working on cross-disciplinary teams of highly talented and motivated engineers on projects of national importance
  • Develop a deep understanding of challenges associated with the design of advanced energy-efficient microelectronics solutions and technology protection for high throughput signal processing, SoCs (Systems on Chip), radar, PNT, and other applications for national security
  • Work with our sponsors to draft, evaluate, and execute courses of action to ensure the US has adequate policies, supply chains, and technology protection measures to meet the needs of government programs of record
  • Participate in the development low size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) integrated circuits and in the implementation of algorithms in SW/HW embedded systems
  • Signal processing component development across both FPGA and ASIC technologies
  • Lead development, integration, and testing of custom prototypes
