SAIC is currently seeking an onsite principal network engineer to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with experienced engineers and customers supporting the Space Systems Command. Our network team makes sure satellites can communicate with their ground systems and are responsible for monitoring and support of network infrastructure (Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs) and virtual server environments (servers, storage area networks, and VMware) and should be able to troubleshoot, install, implement and administer network systems. The selected candidate will also support the cybersecurity team 50%25 of the time. We need experts who can determine what needs to be done and go off and do it but also work successfully as part of a team. You will Analyze network characteristics such as traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput Assist more senior network engineers with the installation, removal and modifications to network components Configure, deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot multivendor switches, routers, firewalls, UPS, and network gear in operational and test lab environments and solutions, including Cisco, Palo Alto, Dell, HPE, or Juniper Operate, deploy, or administer Linux and Unix systems Provide occasional after-hours operational support for networks Apply your knowledge of enterprise system monitoring and management tools (Solar Winds, WireShark, etc.) to analyze network activity and problems Develop and maintain network topologies and diagrams Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university and 9 years or more relevant experience. May substitute 4 years or more experience for a bachelor’s degree. Active Top Secret or DoE Q clearance with SCI eligibility (must be eligible for SCI indoctrination within first 3 months of start date) and be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI CompTIA Security + or equivalent certification required for DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2 compliance and able to obtain environment certification within 6 months of start Strong background in Microsoft Office tools and Visio 4 years in administering and managing network router and switches 4 years in experience w/ firewalls, internet, VPN's remote implementation, troubleshooting & problem resolution Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices Ability to create network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytic tools. (e.g PingPlotter, WireShark, etc.) Desired Experience Good understanding of discipline process; information and data management, configuration control Seasoned communicator with demonstrated record of success in leadership, followership, and working with contract representatives and government sponsors. Ability to provide high-level summary of results and draw conclusions based on interpretation of data
