AT&T is seeking a skilled WiFi Engineer to develop the WiFi requirements, deployment strategy and design standards. This role focuses on measuring and improving WiFi effectiveness, optimizing seamless transitions between wireless and WiFi networks, and driving customer satisfaction through WiFi/RAN convergence, VoWiFi, and advanced technologies. The WiFi Engineer will develop KPIs, design solutions, and implement strategies to deploy WiFi in AT&T’s network.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with large-scale WiFi deployments in telecom or ISP settings.
  • Knowledge of customer premise equipment (CPE) and VoWiFi optimization.
  • Familiarity with AT&T’s network and customer experience goals.
  • Programming or scripting to automate/build etc.
  • CWNE, CCIE Wireless, ACMX, or equivalent level preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

CCNA/CCNP/CWNA/CWDP level Switching/Routing/Wi-Fi experience with:

  • Designing, building, and operating Wi-Fi networks.
  • Layer 2/3 Switching
  • Controller-based & controllerless enterprise wireless architectures and monitoring systems.
  • TCP/IP, IPv4 and IPv6 and related network services (e.g. DHCP and DNS).
  • Hands-on experience designing, configuring, optimizing Wi-Fi networks with knowledge of RF design and latest 802.11 standards.
  • Expertise in WiFi standards (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), VoWiFi, and Multi-Access PDU with ATSSS.
  • Scaling of large Wi-Fi networks from end to end (provisioning/monitoring).
  • Vendors Cisco, CommScope/Ruckus, Aruba, OpenWiFi
  • Proficiency in network analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of wireless (4G/5G) and WiFi interaction, including 2nd SSID setups.
  • Experience with KPI development and data visualization (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Skills in RF planning, spectrum management, and network design.

SOFT SKILLS:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication for technical and non-technical collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field. Master’s preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years in WiFi network engineering, with expertise in performance optimization and WiFi/RAN convergence.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.
Our Principal RAN Design Engineering, earns between $143,800-$215,800 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.

Responsibilities

Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Wireless Network Engineer - Enterprise Network Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to requirement analysis, engineering design, solution development and ongoing management of a multi-vendor enterprise Wi-Fi network infrastructure.
  • Drive technical convergence alignment between RAN Engineering and WIFI.
  • Develop automated methods to mitigate and remediate network events and minimize operational complexity.
  • Plan and Design WiFi Solutions: Design WiFi architectures, including 2nd SSID configurations, to improve coverage, capacity, and reliability.
  • VoWiFi Roadmap: Drive VoWiFi updates and roadmap planning to ensure high-quality voice services over WiFi.
  • Technology Innovation: Recommend emerging technologies (e.g., WiFi 6/6E/7, mesh networks, Multi-Access PDU) to maintain AT&T’s leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with wireless engineering, product management, and field teams to align WiFi and RAN strategies.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide advanced technical support for WiFi, VoWiFi, and convergence issues.
