Research Computing Centre This is a full-time continuing position salary in the range $104,616 - $113,920 (HEW 7), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. Based at our picturesque and conveniently located St Lucia campus About This Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity to work with researchers across the University and its collaborators to collect research data as the Principal REDCap Systems Administrator. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical development and operational support for UQ’s university-wide REDCap service, a secure web platform for building and managing online data collection. In this role, you will contribute your expertise to a range of diverse research projects, ensuring our research community has the tools they need to thrive. Working under the supervision of the Senior Manager for Digital Research Infrastructure, you will be part of a small, dynamic, and collaborative team of specialists. You will enjoy the freedom to explore emerging technologies, experiment with new solutions, and take ownership of projects with the support of a forward thinking environment. Key responsibilities will include: Technical Leadership & Service Management Provide expert leadership and technical advice on REDCap architecture, underlying databases, and complex data processing topics. Lead the end to end design, implementation, and maintenance of the service, including performance enhancements and complex query development. Data Governance & Security Integrity Oversee account management and security monitoring, ensuring all systems meet university standards for timely remediation and data protection. Develop robust online governance processes and review user proposals to ensure ethical, compliant, and secure data access. Innovation & Emerging Technologies Continuously investigate and evaluate emerging web technologies (such as HTML, JavaScript, PHP, or Python) to improve data access and dissemination. Identify opportunities to optimise internal technical tools and database performance to drive efficiency for the university wide service. Researcher Empowerment & Engagement Develop comprehensive training materials and self service resources to support researchers across all disciplines and skill levels. Provide professional technical support and day to day engagement, acting as a trusted advisor to help researchers meet their specific project goals. Collaborative Strategy & Communication Actively participate in multidisciplinary team initiatives, fostering a culture of transparent information sharing and creative problem-solving. Proactively communicate technical updates, software outage windows, and strategic service changes to the broader UQ research community. About You Essential Degree with at least four years of subsequent relevant experience, or extensive technical expertise and experience in the field. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide tailored support to people with different levels of technical proficiency. Expert knowledge in data access, extraction, management, and analysis from a diverse range of sources. High standards of accuracy, attention to detail, and exceptional time management. Desirable Experience with REDCap project development and management. Knowledge of web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS. Experience with with SQL, MariaDB, PHP, and Python. Experience with Linux for general systems administration. You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history checks.
