Job Summary:
We’re looking for a talented Senior Research Engineer with 15 or more years of experience researching and building mechanical systems. The role involves advanced stress analysis, electrical power systems integration, prototype development, and hands-on fabrication using advanced manufacturing techniques. The ideal candidate shows integrity and a focus on quality in their work, delivering reliable results with professionalism. The candidate will communicate project outcomes through detailed reports, presentations, and demonstrations, ensuring alignment with mission-critical objectives in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Work with dynamic team on design, development, and testing of mechanical systems for customer sponsored projects in the aerospace, defense, and/or energy sectors.
· Perform computational and mathematical analysis to ensure system integrity and performance.
· Design and integrate electrical power systems to support mechanical system functionality.
· Collaborate with team on machine vision and machine learning system designs and integration.
· Develop and manufacture prototypes using manual machining, wire EDM, laser welding, and additive manufacturing techniques.
· Follow safety standards and take responsibility to keep yourself and others in a safe working environment.
· Author technical reports, deliver presentations, and conduct demonstrations to communicate program deliverables to stakeholders.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, engineers, technicians, and project managers, to meet project goals.
· Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
· Ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards and security protocols.
· Provide technical guidance to project teams building a culture of quality, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Experience: Minimum of 15 years in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a focus on system design, stress analysis, testing, and prototype fabrication.
· Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in CAD/CAE software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or PTC Creo).
o Expertise in simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB, or COMSOL Multiphysics) for stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics analyses.
o Hands-on experience with manual machining, wire EDM, laser welding, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
o Knowledge of electrical power systems design and integration.
o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and stakeholder communication.
· Communication Skills: Ability to produce written technical articles, deliver professional presentations, and conduct live demonstrations.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and work in lab or manufacturing environments.
· Travel Requirements: up to 15%, hybrid work available after onboarding depending on phases of projects.
· Schedule Requirements: 40 hours per week with ability to perform occasional overtime based on project needs and upcoming company deliverables.
· Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance.
· Education: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
· Soft Skills: Project management, problem-solving, and strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with DoD or DoE projects, particularly in defense or aerospace sectors.
· Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME/ANSI standards.
· Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) and Professional Engineer (PE).
· Education: Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
· Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes or IoT integration in mechanical systems.
