WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

To continue our growth as a premier Contract Research Organisation, Pharmaron is opening a new Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Laboratory at our Hoddesdon site. We are looking for a Principal Scientist to join this new team. In this role, you will lead a team of scientists and manage a new UK AMS laboratory.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD, MSc or BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or related subject
  • Experience of managing a laboratory within a GxP setting
  • Experience of working in a laboratory that handles 14C is highly desirable
  • Experience of working in drug discovery and/or development projects with appreciation of related disciplines
  • Experience of managing scientific teams / coaching / mentoring
  • Experience of coordinating equipment validation, maintenance and calibration and scheduling of equipment workload to meet internal and external timelines Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present scientific findings to colleagues and clients
  • Effective problem solving and analysis skills
  • Flexible mindset with the ability to take the initiative.

Responsibilities
  • To provide operational leadership of a UK AMS lab with direct and indirect line management responsibility for a team expected to grow up to approx. 20 FTEs.
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratories, ensuring that all GCP, quality and health and safety guidelines are met
  • To lead and co-ordinate the activities of the lab team responsible for the receipt and analysis of 14C-labelled clinical samples by LSC, AMS, LC+AMS and LC-MS/MS.
  • To understand, the analytical techniques and procedures involved in AMS-enabled clinical studies
  • To collaborate with other AMS team and Pharmaron stakeholders, providing regular status updates to ensure that project milestones are met
  • To plan, co-ordinate and prioritize workflows, in collaboration with other key stakeholders to ensure revenue recognition milestones are met
  • To ensure that all equipment is validated, calibrated, maintained and serviced as per SOP
  • Actively contribute to client visits and teleconferences as appropriate.
  • Hold equipment/software/lab space responsibilities on behalf of their team.
  • Address findings appropriate to area arising from QA audits and process inspections.
  • To collaborate with global AMS and metabolism teams and lead implementation of continuous improvement culture and efficiency optimization on behalf of the UK lab
  • Build a high performing, passionate team responsive to client needs through managing group objectives and coaching and mentoring junior team members.
