PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST BIOLOGY & ASSAYS (ALL GENDERS)

Are you passionate about biological assay development and drug discovery? Bayer Pharmaceuticals in Wuppertal is seeking a Principal Scientist (all genders) to join the Biology & Assays team within Drug Discovery Science for a one-year opportunity. In this role, you will develop and optimize complex biological assays in high-throughput formats, working closely with technical lab scientists and multidisciplinary teams to drive biologics projects forward.   • You hold a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field, with post-graduate training in an industrial or academic environment
  • You bring several years of experience in an industrial setting, with extensive experience in supervising technical staff, undergraduates, or doctoral students
  • You are an expert in biologics and antibodies, with a focus on complex biological/biochemical assays in high-throughput format for drug discovery
  • You demonstrate hands-on experience with cell and molecular biology, lab automation, and cell line engineering
  • You are skilled in utilizing luminescence and fluorescence-based readouts for hit identification and lead characterization
  • You show broad knowledge of modalities available for addressing different therapeutic targets
  • You exhibit strong digital literacy, and can easily use digital analysis tools complemented by your interpersonal and communication skills
  • You are a strategic thinker with a drug hunting mindset, passionate about helping patients in need
  • Your fluent English skills (written and spoken) round your profile off and your exceptional communication and presentation skills make you stand out
Responsibilities
  • You focus on drug discovery projects, actively contributing as a member of highly interdisciplinary and cross-organizational teams
  • You supervise and mentor lab associates, interns, and postdocs to drive scientific projects
  • You design and execute fit-to-purpose biological assays to support data-driven decision-making
  • You develop strategies to understand target-modality relationships, identify tailored lead-finding approaches, and establish assay systems to probe target biology
  • You develop complex essays in high-throughput format, utilizing luminescence and fluorescence readouts for hit identification, lead characterization, and modality selection
  • You collaborate with disease biologists, modality experts, drug discovery scientists, and computational biologists to build state-of-the-art methods to address complex biological questions
  • You stay up-to-date on assay development and drug discovery advancements, scouting innovation opportunities
  • You contribute to the scientific community through publications and conferences
