As a Sr. Principal Software Engineer, you will be a key technical leader responsible for the architecture, governance, and delivery of our enterprise-scale SaaS products, operating with Champion Pace. You will be a recognized internal subject matter expert, focusing on providing thought leadership across the organization. The Mission: What You'll Be Building You will be the core driver in the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of new, highly complex models and procedures. You will provide strategic technical direction, mentor senior and principal team members, and leverage broad expertise in highly specialized fields to develop solutions in cloud-native architectures, microservices, and Agile product development. You will be instrumental in building the next generation of our platform. Lead architect for the target PostgreSQL environment — designing the schema that QAD will run on for the next decade. Your Impact/ What you will be doing: Design the target PgSQL schema: normalization, partitioning, indexing, and constraint strategy Define migration patterns for Progress-specific data types and stored procedures Design the CDC path to Kafka — Debezium configuration, topic structure, and schema registry integration Own performance validation: define query SLOs and lead tuning across the migrated database Technically mentor senior database engineers on the squad Qualifications Core Technical Foundations / What we are looking for 10+ years in data or database engineering; expert-level PostgreSQL authority at a prior organization Experience with large-scale, zero-loss data migrations between database systems CDC architecture experience: Debezium, Kafka Connect, or equivalent tooling Hands-on SQL and migration script development — you write and review production code ProgressDB or OpenEdge database familiarity Analytical query optimization for OLAP workloads Avro/Protobuf schema evolution and Kafka schema registry experience The Mindset: Strategic Problem Solver: Strong logical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Capable of driving functional solutions end-to-end and influencing technology choices.
