The Search Platform Experience team is transforming how users discover data and leverage AI/ML in their daily search activities. As part of Atlassian’s Central AI Organisation, we are building foundational capabilities for Rovo, our next-generation AI-powered search and knowledge platform.
We are seeking a Principal Engineer (Front End or Full Stack) to join our team. For a Full-Stack Engineer, we are looking for someone with a deep understanding and experience with FE technologies. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Search Platform Experience team and play a pivotal role in solving complex architectural challenges across our search technology stack. You will lead multi-quarter, cross-functional projects that directly align technical solutions with Atlassian’s strategic objectives.
You will inspire innovation by tackling hard problems, proposing and influencing solutions, and driving technical evolution and engineering culture across APAC and beyond. Your work will advance our architecture, foster collaboration, and accelerate the adoption of new technologies.
Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hands-on experience in software/technology roles, with a focus on enterprise cloud products and solutions.
• Deep expertise in front end and/or full stack development (e.g., React, TypeScript, Node.js, or similar modern frameworks).
• Proficiency with cloud-native technologies, ideally AWS.
• Experience architecting and implementing features for high-scale, multi-tenant SaaS products (4 nines reliability or higher).

• Shape the technical direction and long-term architecture for the Search Experience and Expansion pillar within Central AI.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance, and reliable front end and/or full stack solutions for AI-powered search experiences.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and design leaders to influence department-level strategy and ensure alignment with Atlassian’s product and platform vision.
• Partner with principal engineers and architects across teams to explore and integrate ML capabilities that solve search and discovery challenges.
• Set and uphold standards for operational excellence and engineering best practices across Atlassian.
• Mentor, hire, and develop engineers to build a world-class team.
