Description
MISSION The System Architect – Electrical is the power distribution and electrical systems authority for assigned strategic accounts within the zone. This role owns the end-to-end electrical architecture for datacenter solutions, from primary utility input through UPS systems, distribution, monitoring, to rack-level power delivery. Working as a core member of the account fighting unit with the Key Account Manager and Segment Solution Architect, the SAE-Electrical strengthens technical positioning and drives successful deal closure. The role is accountable for electrical solution quality, code compliance, technical standards adherence, and building deep customer credibility at the electrical engineering level. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Electrical System Design (Core Engineering) Design complete electrical and power distribution systems for datacenter solutions: Primary electrical infrastructure: utility service entry, transformer sizing, switchgear selection UPS systems: topologies (2N, N+1, dual-bus), sizing for IT + cooling loads, battery runtime calculations, modular vs. monolithic Distribution architecture: primary/secondary distribution, PDU sizing, cable routing, voltage drop analysis Monitoring and control: BMS integration, UPS/PDU interfaces, SNMP/Modbus protocols, alarm/alerting configuration Grounding and bonding: single-point vs. multi-point, lightning/surge protection, rack-level grounding strategies AI DC electrical design: GPU cluster power profiles, CDU pump load integration, power sequencing for high-density racks Energy modeling: PUE contribution from electrical distribution, efficiency loss calculations, power factor optimization Compliance: IEC, IEEE, NEC/local codes, Uptime Institute Tier electrical requirements, EN 50600 Solution Engineering Deliverables Produce all electrical engineering outputs for bids: Single-line diagrams (SLD) at concept and scheme level Load calculations and demand analysis Cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit analysis Equipment specifications and schedules (transformers, UPS, switchgear, PDUs) BMS integration documentation: protocol requirements, I/O mapping, network design Bill of Materials (BoM) for electrical scope Design handover packages when solutions are won Customer & Consultant Engagement Lead electrical-scope technical discussions with customers; defend design decisions at engineer-to-engineer level Conduct electrical technical workshops with design consultants; embed Schneider standards in RFP briefs Support EPC contractor engagement: design reviews, compliance clarifications, interface resolution Present power architecture and redundancy strategy to customer leadership and engineering teams Build and maintain direct technical relationships with customer electrical engineering teams Fighting Unit & Bid Support Work as core member of the account fighting unit: SSA (solution strategy), SAE-Electrical (power train), SAM-Mechanical (thermal train), Digital System architect and KAM (customer relationship) Co-design with System Architect – Mechanical: align electrical loads with cooling calcs, CDU pump loads, BMS integration points Submit qualifying bid designs through Principal Architect review; address technical feedback Participate in win/loss debrief reviews: capture electrical decisions for standards evolution Support solution integration: ensure power design is competitive, code-compliant, and aligned with customer needs TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Expert-level competency required across power distribution, UPS systems, and electrical compliance. This person must be the most technically credible voice in the room on electrical design when presenting to enterprise and hyperscaler engineering teams. Core Technical Domains Primary Infrastructure: Utility service analysis, transformer selection (oil-filled, dry-type, k-factor), switchgear/MCC design, grounding systems UPS & Backup Power: Modular and monolithic UPS topologies, battery sizing and runtime, parallel UPS systems, static transfer switches, generator integration Distribution & PDUs: Primary/secondary distribution, rack PDU selection (metered, switched, smart), overcurrent protection coordination, voltage optimization Monitoring & Control: BMS/DCIM integration, SNMP/Modbus/BACnet protocols, real-time alerting, predictive maintenance capabilities, power quality monitoring Compliance & Standards: IEC, IEEE, NEC/local electrical codes, Uptime Institute Tier electrical criteria, EN 50600, fire protection integration AI DC: GPU power profiles (Nvidia, AMD), heterogeneous load management, power sequencing for dense racks, immersion cooling electrical considerations EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Essential Degree in Electrical Engineering (BE/BTech preferred) 8–14 years in datacenter electrical design, commissioning, or presales; minimum 5 years in DC environments Demonstrated design experience: UPS systems, distribution architecture, switchgear sizing, power redundancy (N, N+1, 2N) Experience producing SLDs, load calculations, cable schedules, equipment specifications Ability to present and defend electrical designs to customer electrical engineering teams Working knowledge of BMS/DCIM integration, SNMP/Modbus protocols, power monitoring systems Familiarity with IEC/IEEE standards and Uptime Institute Tier electrical requirements Preferred / Advantageous Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) certification – electrical module Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent national electrical licensing Direct AI DC experience: GPU cluster power profiles, heterogeneous load management Background with hyperscalers (AWS, Google, Meta, Microsoft) or Tier 1 consultants Presales or solutions engineering background
