Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

The Principal Systems Engineer (PSE) is a core member of CPI’s Cybersecurity Infrastructure Engineering team and is responsible for the architecture, design, build, and stable operation of CPI’s systems by ensuring they are reliable, available, secure, and maintainable for CPI’s on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The PSE works as part of a small multidisciplined, cross-functional team that supports the full spectrum of technology services, providing infrastructure and end-user computing direction in technical standards, planning, and strategy to other technical teams and leadership.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO EVERY DAY:

  • Understand business requirements for designing, setting up, and deploying key infrastructure components, including end-user computing, compute, storage, web applications, and related critical services, to balance scalability, availability, security, and performance.
  • Monitor, manage, and propose recommendations for improving CPI’s infrastructure systems; reduce complexity and noise, as appropriate.
  • Ensure hardware, operating systems, application software, network security, and related systems adhere to organizational compliance and operational requirements.
  • Understand trade-offs, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to remediate or improve the health of CPI systems.
  • Participate in architecture, planning, and support of the various infrastructure environments with an emphasis on the security level of the platforms.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute changes to correct issues and enhance production and non-production systems while evaluating and understanding the impact on the business systems and communicating properly.
  • Document commonly encountered issues on newly implemented systems and raise awareness across support teams to drive efficiency.
  • Investigate options to reduce repetitive tickets through automation or system enhancement configurations.
  • Identify, document, and recommend security safeguards and configurations across all infrastructure systems.
  • Manage system capacity, reusability, maintainability, and security life cycle of systems.
  • Collaborate and effectively work with other Technology Services teams and outsourcing providers to ensure technology security solutions align with organizational strategic goals.
  • Champion the health of CPI systems and display an ownership model when planning and designing.
  • Provide directions to a group of peers; achieve team consent or buy-in and demonstrate the ability to shape team decisions using customer and CPI business knowledge.
  • Identify dependencies and critical path; propose mitigation plans for risk and problems for the technology platforms.
  • Propose alternative solutions with cost analysis; provide input on resource abilities within Technology Services.
  • Drive best practices within Technology Services.
  • Inspire and enable teamwork; create and sustain a positive work environment; motivate the team to deliver more than they can independently; and identify and communicate improvement opportunities and solutions.
  • Share knowledge through peer mentoring, shared resources, and informal teachings.
  • Influence other related technology disciplines, understand industry trends and technologies, and apply learning within a tech platform.
  • Explore opportunities for personal improvement; be responsive and respectful to requests for assistance and look for chances to deliver feedback to enhance the team culture.
  • Focus on drawing the proper conclusion rather than winning the argument; find ways to energize, motivate, and inspire other team members regularly.
  • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
