Job Description

Join Enfield Council’s Journeys and Places team and play a leading role in transforming how people move around the borough. We’re looking for a forward-thinking Principal Traffic Engineer to lead on all technical matters relating to traffic engineering and road safety, helping us deliver improvements that benefit communities across Enfield.
As a senior member of the Design & Construction team, you’ll provide expert guidance on traffic orders, road safety audits, and design standards. You’ll lead a team of skilled officers and act as the Council’s principal advisor on traffic engineering – ensuring our projects meet the highest standards for safety, accessibility and inclusion.

You will:

• Act as the Council’s technical lead on traffic engineering, road safety and traffic order compliance
• Provide expert input into complex and high-profile infrastructure projects
• Oversee the delivery of road safety audits in line with best practice and national guidance
• Ensure road safety is embedded throughout project lifecycles, aligned with Vision Zero and Healthy Streets principles
• Manage and develop a small team, fostering professional growth and innovation
• Contribute to shaping policy and procedures that influence how we create safer, more liveable neighbourhoods
