PRINCIPAL TRANSPORT PLANNER

London or Manchester, UK - other UK offices can be considered for the right candidate.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Transport Planner to lead and support development planning projects across a wide range of sectors. You will play a key role in delivering transport inputs for planning applications, providing expert advice to clients, and influencing sustainable development proposals. This role combines technical, project management, and client-facing responsibilities and offers an excellent opportunity to shape land use and transport integration at a senior level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Town Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 8+ years of professional experience in transport planning, with a strong focus on development planning.
  • Extensive experience delivering transport inputs to support planning applications in the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant national and local transport and planning policy frameworks (e.g. NPPF, LTN 1/20).
  • Proficiency in modelling and analysis tools (e.g. TRICS, Junctions 10, LinSig, AutoCAD, GIS).
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proven project management experience and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship offered for this position)

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Chartered status or working toward professional accreditation (e.g. CIHT, ICE, RTPI, TPP).
  • Experience working with developers, local planning authorities, or multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Understanding of sustainable transport design, including active travel and low-carbon mobility solutions.
