ABOUT THE ROLE

Stantec’s Transport Planning and Advisory team partners with its clients to provide traffic and transport solutions for the community and we are currently seeking a Team Leader / Principal Transport Planner to join our team based in Melbourne.
As Team Leader, you will provide leadership to ensure alignment to company strategy, initiatives, vision, and culture. You will be the advocate of the business both internally within Stantec and externally to clients and professional organisations within the region. The Team Leader position is a function, in addition to the technical / project contribution role as a Principal Transport Planner.

DAY TO DAY TASKS WOULD INVOLVE:

  • Leadership and Team Development
  • Set clear and achievable goals with team members and conduct regular 1:1 catch-ups to check-in on team member health and wellbeing and track the goal progress.
  • Develop the team’s skills and experience through appropriate training development, mentoring and guidance.

  • Foster a success-oriented environment within the team by displaying collaborative behaviours and exerting measured and balanced influence.

  • Technical Expertise and Project Execution

  • Maintain and improve technical standard in Transport Planning. This includes keeping up to date with the latest technological developments in the field and imparting this information to others, as appropriate.

  • Lead the execution and delivery of projects, ensuring adherence to technical standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Oversee project management activities, ensuring high-quality deliverables and compliance with industry best practices.

  • Opportunities for thought leadership to attend conferences and seminars promoting the Stantec brand

  • Business Development and Client Relationship Management

  • Initiate and manage business development opportunities, actively participate in and lead client service through establishing and maintaining strong relationships.

  • Lead and/or review proposals for pricing, approach and methodology, variation estimates and submission documents, and review and evaluate subconsultant tender response submissions to ensure they are suitable.

  • Operational and Performance Management

  • Support the Group Leader in monitoring and reporting on team performance, contributing to the preparation of annual business plans and strategic initiatives.

  • Ensure optimal team utilization through effective forecasting, workload management, and delegation of tasks.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy project backlog through strategic networking and business development activities.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR THIS ROLE YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or planning (or equivalent technical qualification)
  • Minimum 8 years of transport planning experience within the public or private consulting environment.
  • A broad range of skills covering people management, business development, project delivery and business management.
  • Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.
