    The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Prison Supervisor, to provide a critical role within Corrections & Justice Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have completed Prison Officer Pre-Service Training
  • There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly desirable.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

A Prison Supervisor is responsible for service delivery outcomes within their area of responsibility. The Supervisor may be required to be the officer in charge of the prison, perform after hours stand-by duties and is required to manage a coordinated response to critical incidents in a timely manner. This includes being an active member of an Incident Management Team.
The Prison Supervisor will direct and supervise teams conducting searches and escorts, surveillance, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating a variety of security equipment, collating information and preparing reports. Prison Supervisors have a significant role in ensuring compliance with prison procedures. The Prison Supervisor will also act, as required, in the role of Disciplinary Officer.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Leading and managing staff to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes maintenance of the integrity of both the external and internal security of the facility, appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff for compliance with security and safety procedures.
  • Train, supervise and support staff in all aspects of prison operations including prisoner assessment, case management, program and service knowledge and involvement, maintenance of professional boundaries and contribution to prison security management and classification procedures.
  • Deliver performance management and professional development guidance to custodial staff, taking responsibility for supervision and development of allocated team staff.
