As a Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will be a member of the Privacy and Compliance Office where you will develop, execute, and maintain processes related to the ethical and compliant intake and sharing of biomedical research data. We are looking for a person who has worked in a professional setting handling human biomedical research data and has demonstrated knowledge of the associated laws, regulations, ethical principles, and compliance processes that support research integrity. The ideal candidate will also have sufficient familiarity with legal language to comfortably read and navigate laws, regulations, and institutional agreements. The position requires self-motivation and ability to collaborate with various remote teams both internally and externally. In this role, you will help expand the scientific impact of biomedical research data to optimize human health in an ethical and compliant manner.

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Professional Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will manage and analyze compliance with data privacy policies and regulations, develop privacy guidelines and training materials, and support collaborative data governance practices under moderate supervision.

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage Professional, career level position, with a hiring salary range of $72,100 to $94,815. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation, improvement, and maintenance of governance frameworks to enable responsible research collaborations and data sharing for assigned projects.
  • Administer custom data access processes and systems for assigned projects.
  • Contribute to internal and external audits and investigations.
  • Produce detailed documentation and reporting of work activities for reference, review, and/or audit purposes.
  • Monitor, analyze, and/or enforce compliance with data privacy policies and regulations.
  • Contribute to the assessment of emerging ethical, legal, and technical implications of sharing and using biomedical research. Contribute to updating corresponding privacy and compliance processes or guidelines.
  • Aid in the creation and refinement of privacy and compliance training materials and deliver training components as part of larger Privacy and Compliance Office training initiatives.
  • Contribute to writing and continuously improving data/privacy protection procedures and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on data governance for research to enable compliant data-sharing practices.
  • Collaborate on the development of data sharing agreements.
  • Coordinate the review and execution of agreements for assigned projects, escalating negotiation review as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for, and periodically assist with, core administrative office functions to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Stay current in applicable rules & regulations (e.g., the Common Rule, HIPAA, GDPR, etc.) and best practices that support responsible research and enable open science practices.
