OVERVIEW

We are seeking an exceptional, organized and experienced Private Chef to join our team, to meal plan and prep ingredients for 5 to 8 Group Homes providing care for Children and Youth involved with Children’s Services, as well as to execute meals for 3 to 4 Professional Executives.
The successful candidate will design appetizing and well-balanced, nutritious menus in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide, client preferences, youth preferences, dietary restrictions, and seasonal ingredient availability.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Red Seal Chef or Journeyman Cook preferred, equivalencies and experience may be considered
  • Experience as a Private Chef preferred
  • Written and verbal fluency in English is required
  • Must possess valid Food Handling Safety Certification
  • Current Criminal Background Check (in last 6 months), or be willing to obtain one prior to starting

  • Prior knowledge of children’s nutrition an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and a reliable vehicle to travel between sites

    Salary: $30 to $35 / hour

Responsibilities
  • Planning, budgeting and executing healthy and delicious meals tailored for 3 to 4 Executives in their residences.
  • Planning, budgeting and prepping creative and nutritious menus tailored for 8 to 16 youth, who reside in 5 to 8 different Group Homes on the west end of Edmonton.
  • Ordering groceries for approved meal plans for staff to execute in the group homes for the youth.
  • Sourcing quality ingredients at economical prices, by price comparing and purchasing seasonal ingredients as needed.
  • Following pre-approved menus and recipes as agreed to.
  • Prepping, packaging ingredients and providing instructions for staff to cook daily meals (including breakfast, lunch, dinner) for youth aged 8 to 18 years old, in group home settings.
  • Delivering the ready-to-make meals, along with the accompanying cooking instructions, to 5 to 8 different group homes in west Edmonton locations.
  • Catering for company meetings and events as needed.
  • Adhering to food regulations, established policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Planning to ensure that the meals are prepped and delivered in a punctual manner, so that the youth have adequate time to eat and get to school and appointments.
  • Controlling expenses through re-purposing leftovers, portion control and waste management.
  • Preventing spoilage of ingredients through proper storage in designated areas, by labelling, dating and rotating food items following the “first in, first out” process.
  • Monitoring the food temperatures and food storage areas.
  • Complying with food hygiene regulations in accordance with the Food Safety Act.
  • Completing preparations for future scheduled meal services.
  • Communicating to ensure meal satisfaction and adapting to feedback for future menus.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and adhering to health and safety standards including food storage, inventory management, and kitchen sanitation
